iPhone photos to Windows, no cable

Over your own Wi‑Fi · October 6, 2026

To use a photo from your iPhone on a Windows PC, most people plug in a cable or email the photo to themselves. This page shows how to send iPhone photos to Windows with no cable and no cloud — just your own Wi‑Fi.

The usual ways, and what they cost you

  • Import over a USB cable: reliable if the cable is at hand, but it takes an import step every time.
  • Email or message yourself: easy for one photo, tedious for several, and the photos pass through outside servers.
  • Sync with a cloud photo service: automatic, but needs an account and puts your photos in the cloud.

Sending with AirBoard

AirBoard moves photos, files and copied text directly between devices on the same Wi‑Fi (LAN). Nothing goes through an internet server, and there is no account to create.

Setup (once)

  1. Install AirBoard on Windows from the Microsoft Store and on the iPhone from the App Store.
  2. Put both on the same Wi‑Fi.
  3. On the iPhone, tap Find on Wi‑Fi or scan the QR code, and pick your PC. Approve the new device on Windows the first time.

Send photos

  1. In AirBoard on the iPhone, open the Share tab and tap Photos.
  2. Pick the photos you want (as many as you like).
  3. On Windows they are saved in an AirBoard folder inside Documents. You can choose another folder in the Windows app under Settings › Save to.

Other files (PDFs and so on) go the same way from Files on the Share tab. From Windows to the iPhone, drop files onto the AirBoard window; on the iPhone they appear in the Files app under On My iPhone › AirBoard.

On iPhone, AirBoard sends and receives while it is open. Because of how iOS works, AirBoard does not transfer while it is in the background. Keep it open until the photos have gone.

Not connecting?

Office, school and hotel Wi‑Fi often blocks devices from talking to each other. Try connecting through Windows Mobile hotspot or iPhone Personal Hotspot.

FAQ

Is it free?

Yes. The iPhone app shows ads, which you can remove with a one-time Remove Ads purchase. The Windows app has no ads.

Where do the photos end up?

Only on the device you send them to — here, the folder you chose on Windows. They are not sent to any internet server.

Can I send copied text too?

Yes. See how to copy and paste between iPhone and Windows.
